Kaapsehoop Town
Kaapsehoop (also known as
Kaapshehoop or Kaapschehoop) is a fairytale village with a
rich gold-mining history. It is located high-up in
the cool mountain air in the foothills behind Mbombela
(Nelspruit) at an altitude of 1,600 meters and the town is
often shrouded in mist.
The town is well known for it's
herds of wild horses - be on the lookout from them in the
surrounding grassveld, as well as in the streets of
town.
Here you can shop for exotic,
handmade crystal, gemstone and silver jewelry. Or select
from an enchanted array of collectable objects at The Gold
Mine shop. Kaapsehoop is a delightful place to have a
pancake or light lunch.
Kaapsehoop is also the home of
Adam's Calendar. It resembles Stonehenge and is reputed to
be the oldest man-made structure on Earth. A giant stone
observatory build more than 75,000 years ago that
precisely recorded the solstices, equinoxes and days of
the year.

Dinosaur Park
The Sudwala Dinosaur Park is situated next to the Sudwala Caves.
On display are realistic, life size models of pre-historic animals, ranging from amphibious reptiles,
ancient reptiles, dinosaurs, pre-historic mammals, pre-historic man and more. There are also a number
of live Nile Crocodiles, perfectly adapted to survival and not much changed from their ancient relatives.
The park is set in a lush sub-tropical forest garden, where monkeys and red-breasted cuckoos
abound. The magnificent viewing deck overlooks the Rainforest Valley (National Heritage
Site # 167) - with occasional glimpses of wild chacma baboons.

Sudwala Caves
The Sudwala Caves are the
oldest known caves in the world. The incredible caverns
are situated in Pre-cumbrian dolomite rocks of the Malmani
Group, formed over a period of some 3000 million years,
capturing in stone a time when the area was covered by
warm shallow in-land seas. These are amongst the second
oldest known sedimentary rocks on the earth, and
represented in the cave are fossils of the first oxygen
producing plants on the earth, known as
Collenia. Besides the awesome rock displays the
caverns also boast an array of calcium formations, aged
but active, anciently and patiently still growing
