KNP Camps (SANParks)
in the Southern KNP
The
southern part of the Kruger National Parks offers
self-catering accommodation in seven Main
Restcamps and two Bushveld Camps. Each camp has
its own unique selection of accommodation types,
ranging from camping to luxury lodges.
All
accommodation, ablution and kitchen facilities are
serviced by cleaning staff on a daily basis.
Bedding is supplied in all accommodation units
(except camping). Cooking utensils and
refrigeration are provided in most units.

Main
Restcamps
All the major
restcamps in the Kruger National Park have
electricity, first-aid centres, a shop, braai and
communal kitchen facilities, laundromat, restaurant
and/or self-service cafeteria, public telephones,
cell phone reception, and a refuelling station.
All the main restcamps
are manned by fully trained information
staff. Holiday programmes and evening film
shows of wildlife and conservation are arranged in
many of the restcamps.

Berg-en-Dal Restcamp
Located 13km from the Malalane Entrance Gate.
Situated on the bank of the Matjulu watercourse with
a view of undulating hills to the east. Large trees
are dotted along the streams and dry riverbeds.
Special care has been taken to preserve the natural
vegetation in the camp. Berg-en-Dal is also the only
KNP Restcamp set in a rugged mountain environment
and is built on the site of prehistoric settlements.
Accommodation includes Campsites, Bungalow, Family
Cottages and Guest Houses. Conference facilities are
also available. |

Crocodile Bridge Restcamp
Located 10km from the town of Komatipoort. A small
camp, situated in the south-eastern corner of the
KNP, on the northern bank of the Crocodile River,
which forms the southern boundary of the Kruger. The
game viewing area is known as the ‘Southern
Circle’ and is renowned for its concentration of
numerous prides of lion. It is home to a larger
percentage of the Kruger‘s total rhino population.

Safari Tents. |

Lower Sabie Restcamp
Located on the banks of the Sabie River, one of the
few perennial rivers to flow through the KNP.
Characteristic of the camp is it giant sycamore fig
trees, which support prolific bird and insect
species.
Game and bird watching
from the elevated wooden deck overlooking the
Sabie River is very rewarding.
Accommodation includes
Campsites, Huts, Bungalows, Guest Cottages, Safari
Tents and a Guest House.

Orpen Restcamp
A small camp situated on the western border of the
KNP. The scattered trees and wide-open plains
covered by sweet grass attract many browsers.
Visitors can expect to experience close encounters
with elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion, cheetah and
leopard in a natural environment. Wild dog, cheetah,
zebra and giraffe are also indigenous to this area.
Accommodation includes Bungalows, Cottages,
Campsites (at Maroela satellite camp), and tented
accommodation (at Tamboti satellite camp). |

Pretoriuskop Restcamp
The impressive granite dome known as “Shabeni
Hill†is not far from the camp, which is found in
the south-western corner of the KNP. Nostalgia
prompted an exception to the rule for Pretoriuskop,
the KNP's oldest rest camp, and exotic flowering
plants were allowed to stay, enhancing the strong
sense of the past that is so pervasive.

Satara Restcamp
Satara is a busy camp,
and not without reason. It is situated in an
excellent game viewing area, with the bush
relatively open and the animals plentiful and
diverse. The camp itself has a rustic charm, with
the bulk of the accommodation set out in a series of
circles. Satara is well wooded and the bird-life is
prolific.

Skukuza Restcamp
Skukuza is the KNP's largest rest camp and
administrative headquarters. It is situated on the
southern banks of the Sabie River. The camp is well
foliaged and there are some lofty trees along the
river’s edge.
Other facilities
include a bank, Post Office, vehicle rental
service, a garage for vehicle repairs, nursery,
medical doctor, and conference facilities.
Accommodation includes
Campsites, Safari Tents, Bungalows, Luxury and
semi-luxury Bungalows, Family Cottages and Guest
Houses.

Bushveld
Camps
Bushveld Camps provide accommodation in smaller,
more remote camps. One or more accommodation units
may be reserved. Bushveld Camps do not have shops
or restaurants. Access to all Bushveld Camps is
restricted to overnight visitors with reserved
accommodation.
Open
verandas often serve as kitchen / dining room. All
units have a refrigerator, cooking utensils,
crockery, cutlery and a stove (either 2-plate
stove without an oven, or a 4-plate stove with an
oven in the larger units). All units have private
ablution facilities.

Biyamiti
Bushveld Camp
On the banks of the Mbiyamiti river, hidden by
Delagoa thickets, nestles one of the most beautiful
bushveld camps in the KNP. The camp is ideally
situated between huge Wild Fig and Jackalberry trees
with vast numbers of other fauna and flora species
in abundance. Accommodation consists of one and
two-bedroom cottages. |

Bush Camp
Talamati Bushveld Camp is situated in a large open
valley, affording superb game viewing opportunities.
The luxuriant grassveld in the area attracts large
herds of grazers, to the lush vegetation all year
round. Accommodation consists of one and two-bedroom
cottages. |
